The emblematic house that evokes the Boxster and Cayman models was built in Paraguay.

Porsche and TECHO: 718 homes built in Latin America and The Caribbean

Miami/Asunción. After eleven years of mutual collaboration, financial contributions that already exceed two million dollars, and the unconditional support of nearly 5,000 volunteers, the partnership between Porsche and TECHO has reached 718 houses built in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The emblematic house bearing the number with which the Boxster and Cayman sports cars are identified, was built over the weekend in the 'El Triunfo' settlement, near Luque, a city that is part of the metropolitan area of Greater Asunción, in Paraguay.

“When we signed this partnership at the end of 2011, it was clear to us that our goal was to help as many families as possible who live in precarious conditions in Latin America," said Christoph Klein, interim President and CEO of Porsche Latin America and Regional Sales Director. "With our 718th home, we reached an important milestone, but we know there is still much to be done in our region to help those most in need.”

Diesa, Porsche's exclusive importer for Paraguay, commissioned Gabriel Brizuela, a Paraguayan artist with a wide range of local and international awards, to create a commemorative mural. In order to finish his work in record time, Brizuela was assisted by his fellow countryman César Chaparro, who also has an extensive artistic career.

“It was our luck that the 718th house of the alliance between Porsche and TECHO was built in our country, so we wanted to do something special to commemorate this important event and that is why we assigned the 718th mural,” said Jorge Puschkarevich, General Manager at Porsche Paraguay. “For the past eleven years all Diesa employees have supported this initiative and we will continue to do so with great affection because we know that we all must contribute to a better welfare of our society.”

Under the slogan’'Poverty doesn't stop, neither do we’, volunteers from Diesa and TECHO built eight emergency houses in El Triunfo over the weekend.

“At TECHO we are extremely grateful to Porsche for these over 10 years of collaboration in which we have been co-creating and building housing for the neediest families in Latin America and the Caribbean," said Claudia Neumann, Social Director of Techo Paraguay. “These first 718 houses that have been built thanks to this partnership, have meant that an equal number of families now enjoy more dignified housing which has helped to improve their living conditions.”

Amancio Benítez, beneficiary of housing 718, expressed his joy and emphasized that this change represents a lot for him, his wife Roxanna and their children. “Our health is going to improve; we are going to be freer from distress,” he said.

A far-reaching alliance
On November 28th, 2011, Porsche Latin America and TECHO signed an agreement to sponsor the ARTecho exhibition in Wynwood (Miami) and to build 356 houses for low-income people. The number 356 was a wink to the first car manufactured by Porsche in 1948, the 356 'No. 1'.

The 356 houses were reached in 2015, but the collaboration agreement did not end there.

The partnership between Porsche and TECHO has continued uninterrupted until today. Thanks to the more than two million dollars donated by Porsche Latin America, the support of local importers and distributors and the invaluable work of thousands of volunteers, 718 transitional houses have been built to date in Latin America and the Caribbean, which have benefited nearly 5,000 people.

Similarly, around 30 workshops on automotive mechanics, social skills and employment have been held. It has also been possible to respond to natural disasters, including the floods in northern Chile (2015), Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico (2017), the earthquake in Mexico (2017) and the eruption of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala (2018). In 2020 and 2021, a total of 4,579 hygiene and food kits were delivered to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
