All-Access Hour with Tatjana Maria

“I’m so happy to be back”

Stuttgart. Eleven years have passed since Tatjana Maria last played at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. This year, the 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist has returned together with her family and is looking forward to the tournament. The 35-year-old spoke about:

...her return to the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix:
“I’m so happy to be a part of everything here again. The last time I played Stuttgart was in 2012. That was before I became a mother which is why it’s something special for me being here at my home tournament with my family. It’s a good feeling.”

...her family that has accompanied her to Stuttgart:
“The nicest thing is that Charlotte, my daughter, can now take in everything. She’s now at an age when she understands what’s happening around her and can take the experience away with her. The rest of my family is also very important. It’s lovely being here with them all.”

...her motivation for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix:
“My family pushes me enormously, especially Charlotte. She already plays super tennis and I’m a kind of role model for her. It’s why I go out onto court and fight for every point.”

...her contact with the Porsche Brand Ambassador Angelique Kerber, who recently became a mother for the first time:
“She wrote me on Friday after I won my Billie Jean King Cup match for Germany. It was so nice. I’ll definitely see her personally at the Bad Homburg tournament. I hope she is enjoying the time with her little family.”

...her fitness level after the long match in the Billie Jean King Cup:
“I’m in good shape. I’ve played some longer matches during my career and can recover pretty well. I’m fit and feel well. I’ll try my best in my first round match.”

...her aims at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix:
“The field is incredibly strong and you know that it’s going to be tough right from the first round. I’ll be basically concentrating on my opening match and trying to prepare for it as well as I possibly can. And then it’s all about playing point for point, day to day and round to round.”

...her opponent, the qualifier Ylena In-Albon from Switzerland:
“I hardly watched anything of qualifying, which is why I can’t say anything about her. My husband takes care of the match preparation. He’ll set me up perfectly and work out my tactics.”
